Oman has emphasized its dedication to resolving international disputes through dialogue and diplomacy, as articulated by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi during the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Al Busaidi highlighted the necessity of dialogue for building trust, overcoming differences, and addressing global crises. He underscored the importance of respecting national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law, while discouraging the use of force and interference in states’ internal affairs.
Addressing regional security, Oman expressed concern over the impact of conflicts on trade and navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Al Busaidi reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to safeguarding freedom of navigation, in line with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. He urged all involved parties to show restraint and pursue resolution through dialogue and political negotiations. Oman also reiterated its solidarity with neighboring Gulf countries in efforts to protect their security and sovereignty.
In relation to the crisis in Yemen, Oman renewed its support for a political settlement that maintains the country’s unity, stability, and territorial integrity. Al Busaidi called on all parties to collaborate towards a solution that respects the rights and dignity of the Yemeni people, and supports the country’s reconstruction and development.
Oman also condemned ongoing Israeli actions in the region, reaffirming its support for Palestinian rights and advocating for the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders, in accordance with the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions. Furthermore, Oman highlighted its initiatives to promote tolerance and counter hate speech through the Muscat Plan, in cooperation with the United Nations.
In addition to its diplomatic endeavors, Oman emphasized its commitment to sustainable development as part of Oman Vision 2040. This includes initiatives in renewable energy, sustainable transport, and green industries, with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
