Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman has commenced a two-day state visit to Botswana, marking a significant step in bolstering diplomatic ties between the two nations. The visit began with a ceremonial welcome at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone, where Botswana’s President Duma Gideon Boko personally received the Sultan.

The welcoming ceremony featured a 21-gun salute and a review of a guard of honour, underscoring the importance of the visit. Accompanied by senior officials from both nations, Sultan Haitham took part in the formalities alongside members of his delegation from Oman. The airport ceremony also included a traditional Botswanan cultural performance, a gesture of hospitality and cultural exchange.

Following the official welcome, Sultan Haitham and President Boko proceeded to the Presidency Headquarters, where further discussions aimed at deepening bilateral relations were expected to take place. The visit underscores the mutual interest of Oman and Botswana in exploring new avenues of cooperation and strengthening existing ties.
