Oman is preparing to unveil the “Imtidad” Community Solar Power Stations Programme, a significant initiative set to enhance public involvement in renewable energy. Launching next week, this program is spearheaded by the Public Services Regulation Authority (PSRA) in collaboration with licensed electricity companies. It provides an opportunity for residents and businesses to access solar power benefits without needing to install solar panels on their premises.
Participants in the program will receive credits on their electricity bills from solar power generated by community solar stations integrated with the national grid. The initiative is designed to lower energy expenses, promote the use of clean energy, and aid in Oman’s transition to a sustainable energy future. Central to the launch is the inauguration of the Wadi Al Kabir Community Solar Power Station, which stands as both the first project under the Imtidad programme and Oman’s inaugural community-based solar facility. Authorities plan to extend similar projects nationwide over time.
Officials emphasize that the program will bring economic, social, and environmental advantages by fostering investments in renewable energy, supporting local enterprises, creating job opportunities, and enhancing energy efficiency. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to diversify Oman’s energy portfolio, bolster sustainability efforts, and further the objectives outlined in Oman Vision 2040.
