Pakistan has confirmed the deployment of its military personnel to Saudi Arabia as part of a joint defence agreement aimed at bolstering the kingdom’s territorial security. This deployment comes under the framework of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, which was signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye on August 7, 2026.
Sajjad Haider Khan, the spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, stated that the Pakistani forces and resources are positioned in Riyadh for defensive purposes. He emphasized that this deployment is not intended for supporting any cross-border military actions against Yemen’s Houthi forces, but solely to aid in the protection of Saudi territory.
The Pakistani military also confirmed that its personnel are engaged in various operational capacities within Saudi Arabia as per the terms of the agreement. The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement establishes a mutual commitment among the three countries, wherein an armed attack on one member is considered an attack on all, thereby fostering enhanced regional security cooperation.
