Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise has done the unthinkable — its latest trailer has become the first in movie history to cross one billion views. The promotional footage for Spider-Man: Brand New Day was released on March 17 and within four days surpassed every record previously held in the entertainment world. It is a defining cultural moment for cinema and for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The MCU’s Spider-Man journey began in 2017 with Homecoming and continued through Far From Home and the blockbuster No Way Home. Brand New Day, the fourth film, picks up where No Way Home’s emotional finale left off, with Peter Parker living anonymously in a world that no longer remembers him. The premise has struck a powerful chord with audiences from the very first glimpse of the trailer.
WaveMetrix confirmed the trailer passed 1.1 billion views by Tuesday. Its first-day total of 718.6 million obliterated Deadpool & Wolverine’s record of 365 million views, which had itself broken No Way Home’s record of 355.5 million just over a year earlier. Even the gaming world’s giant GTA VI, with its 475 million views, was eclipsed comfortably.
These numbers translate into massive anticipation for the film’s commercial performance. No Way Home earned $1.9 billion at the global box office, a total many believed would be hard to repeat. But Brand New Day’s trailer momentum, combined with a compelling new story arc and an expanded cast, suggests the film could challenge or even surpass that record.
Written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film features Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. It releases theatrically on July 31 and in India in six languages. The internet is already buzzing with theories, fan art, and countdown timers for opening day.
