Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged Iran and the United States to exercise restraint and resume diplomatic negotiations amid escalating tensions between the two nations. During talks in Beijing with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Wang emphasized that the ongoing conflict serves neither the interests of the involved countries nor the broader international community.

Wang called for a return to the existing memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, encouraging both parties to rebuild a negotiation process grounded in previous agreements. He highlighted the significance of maintaining stability in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global energy supplies and international trade routes, and advocated for its reopening to ensure safe and accessible shipping lanes.

The Chinese foreign minister also advised regional countries to contain the spread of tensions to areas such as Yemen and the Red Sea. He stressed the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue and negotiations, reiterating China’s commitment to peace and security in the Middle East.

Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi, echoing Wang’s sentiments, stated that Iran does not wish for the conflict to persist and is willing to engage in diplomatic efforts while safeguarding its national interests. He affirmed Iran’s recognition of the existing memorandum with the United States and expressed Tehran’s readiness to collaborate with regional nations to enhance relations and security.

Araghchi also welcomed China’s proposals aimed at strengthening peace in the region and conveyed Iran’s openness to deepening cooperation with Beijing. The discussions in Beijing underscore China’s active role in encouraging diplomatic solutions to international conflicts, particularly in volatile regions like the Middle East.
