Jordan and US Finalize Trade Agreement to Enhance Economic Relations

by admin477351

The United States and Jordan have unveiled a new trade agreement designed to enhance economic ties, minimize trade barriers, and foster business opportunities in both nations. This deal involves Jordan maintaining duty-free access for the majority of American goods, while both countries collaborate to eliminate logistical and trade obstacles, thus ensuring a smoother flow of commerce.

Jamieson Greer, the US Trade Representative, emphasized that this agreement aligns with President Donald Trump’s initiative to strengthen economic and strategic alliances in the Middle East, as well as to open new markets for American exporters. Meanwhile, Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, noted that Jordanian exports to the United States will incur a 10 percent tariff. However, US exports to Jordan will continue to be exempt from tariffs under the existing free-trade agreement. Qudah highlighted that the agreement is anticipated to enhance investment between the two countries.

The US and Jordan have a history of trade cooperation, having signed a free-trade agreement in 2001. This made Jordan the first Arab nation to establish such a pact with Washington. By 2010, all duties under this agreement were eliminated, paving the way for the current trade dynamics.

As of 2025, trade between the US and Jordan reached $5.34 billion, according to data from the US government. Jordan’s significant exports include chemicals, garments, mineral products, and precious stones. Its main import partners are China, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates.
